Inspired by Flora Collingwood Norris I began visible mending as a gift to a friend with holey cashmere jumpers. It has been a fitting medative action to take the time to mend post pandemic.

In the winter of 2023 I was awarded funding from the Cairngorms Trust to deliver a series of mending workshops to communities in the Cairngorms National Park. The project aimed to bring people together in the dark winter months to reduce isolation, learn new skills and show others what they had learned.

The emphasis of the Mend with a Friend project was on coming together to enjoy informal sharing of repair skills in an informal and fun environment.

Participants could choose from sahsiko embroidery / patching techniques, contemporary darning, and machine sewing skills. Tea and chat were central to the experience and proved to forge new connections and reconnect others.
